Kuwait City: According to industry figures, 1,100 cases of violence against women are registered in the country every year. The National Bureau of Human Rights has warned of the psychological and social consequences of the growing number of oppressed women. Special cadres in mental and legal fields should be appointed to deal with cases and problems related to women.

The Human Rights Bureau also stated that steps should be taken to provide rehabilitation and support to oppressed women. Legal experts confirmed that Kuwaiti victims and expatriate women accounted for 80 percent of domestic violence cases registered before public prosecution last year. Officials said that despite such high levels of violence, 50% of women are forced to give up their rights and reconcile with their abusers.
