Kuwait City: The Indian Embassy in Kuwait commemorated Mahatma Gandhi's 153rd birthday. "I pay homage to the Father of the Nation on behalf of all fellow citizens," the Indian envoy said on the occasion. Gandhi Jayanti is an opportunity for all of us to renew our commitment to the values that inspired his life — peace, equality, and communal harmony. This year's celebration takes on added significance because the country is commemorating the Amrit Mahotsav, which marks 75 years of independence. This is the time for all of us to work together to make Gandhiji's dreams a reality in India.

Reading from a message from the President of India, the Ambassador said, “A century ago Gandhiji inspired millions with his call of Swadeshi and his stress on self-reliance. The India of his dreams is a clean India, a healthy India. The initiatives taken in this regard have been bearing fruits now. “As we enter the Amrit Kaal, the period before the independence, it is heartening to note that the young generation too has been taking inspiration from Gandhiji’s works.

When the world faces increasingly complex challenges, his life will continue to serve as a lighthouse, guiding us through turbulent waters. "Gandhiji demonstrated to all humanity its true potential and the power of compassion." Let us renew our commitment to walk on his path, the path of truth and nonviolence, to promote mutual goodwill, and to work for the advancement of the nation and the world."

"When Mahatma Gandhi actually lived on this earth and was leading our freedom struggle, the world saw several wars, including two World Wars," the ambassador said. That era produced so many war heroes, so many who built empires and ruled them, so many army generals who won several battles on land, air, and sea, but there are no celebrations on their birth anniversary anywhere in the world." However, we have seen how the entire world celebrated Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary. Every year on his birthday, the United Nations observes the International Day of Nonviolence.
