Egypt: Over 2,000 ancient mummified sheep heads were discovered, at the temple of Ramses II in southern Egypt. They were left as offerings to the pharaoh. At Abydos, a site in southern Egypt renowned for its temples and tombs, a group of American archaeologists from New York University also uncovered the mummies of dogs, goats, cows, gazelles, and mongooses. The ram heads were "offerings," suggesting "a cult to Ramses II celebrated 1,000 years after his death,".
