WMO predicts critical climate threshold for first time within next 5 years

The World Meteorological Organization predicts that a combination of heat-trapping pollution and an impending El Nio will cause the world to cross a critical climate threshold for the first time within the next five years.

As long as people burn planet-warming fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas, global temperatures will keep rising. The WMO reported that there is now a 66% chance that the planet's temperature will rise above 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming above pre-industrial levels for at least one year between 2023 and 2027.
