Morocco earthquake kills 2,000 people

Morocco was struck by a rare and powerful earthquake on September 8th, resulting in the death of over 2,000 individuals and the destruction of structures from the villages of the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech, the capital. 

The Royal Palace declared that the country would observe a three-day national mourning period. The statement also said that the armed forces would set up rescue teams to distribute water, food, tents and blankets to the affected areas.
