UAE Launches National Winter Traffic Safety Campaign at Petrol Stations

The UAE has launched a nationwide National Winter Traffic Safety Campaign, focusing on enhancing safety at petrol stations and reducing accidents caused by unsafe refueling behaviors. Spearheaded by the Joint Committee for Security and Safety—chaired by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in cooperation with the Civil Defense and leading fuel companies including ADNOC Distribution, Emarat, and ENOC—the month-long initiative targets drivers, especially those using desert motorcycles and off-road vehicles.

Through digital platforms, social media, and guidance screens at petrol stations and along federal roads, the campaign will emphasize critical safety practices. Key messages include turning off engines before refueling, avoiding sitting on motorcycles during fueling, securing vehicles properly, following station instructions, and refraining from mobile phone use near pumps. These guidelines aim to prevent fires, spills, and accidents that risk lives and property.

Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, highlighted that the campaign reflects a coordinated commitment to raising safety standards through community awareness. “We will continue to work with our partners…to intensify awareness initiatives and unify efforts aimed at protecting lives, reducing risks, and building a safer and more sustainable environment,” he stated.

The campaign aligns with the UAE’s broader vision to foster a culture of safety on the roads, particularly during winter when travel and outdoor activities increase. By encouraging responsible behavior at fuel stations, authorities aim to minimize preventable incidents and ensure that both residents and visitors contribute to a secure and well-regulated refueling environment nationwide.
