Kuwait Approves Direct Contract with Chinese Firm for Major Wastewater Plant

Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works has received approval from the Central Agency for Public Tenders to award a direct contract worth approximately 1 billion Kuwaiti dinars to China State Construction Engineering Corporation. The contract covers the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Kabd North wastewater treatment plant, set to be one of the country’s largest environmental infrastructure projects.

The plant, with a planned capacity of one million cubic meters per day, will utilize advanced treatment technologies and renewable energy. The direct contracting decision was based on a 2024 Kuwait-China infrastructure cooperation agreement and aims to support urban expansion and environmental sustainability. The project is now moving from planning to implementation.
