Winter Ends in Kuwait as Al Hameem Season Begins

Kuwait is set to bid farewell to the winter season as weather conditions gradually shift to a milder pattern starting Sunday, March 8. According to the Al Ojairi Scientific Center, the country will enter the seasonal period known as “Al Hameem,” which will continue until April 2.

The center explained that this phase marks a transitional period between winter and spring, often characterised by fluctuating weather conditions. Temperatures are expected to rise gradually, though occasional cool spells may still occur.

During the Al Hameem season, Kuwait may experience unstable weather patterns including dust storms, intermittent rainfall and the formation of thunderclouds. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also common during this time of year.

The season is traditionally divided into two phases. Around March 16, daylight and nighttime hours are expected to become nearly equal. A few days later, on March 20, the spring equinox will occur when the sun is positioned directly above the equator.

Following the equinox, the sun gradually shifts northward, bringing longer daylight hours to the region. The center noted that slight variations in the length of day and night may occur depending on latitude and the sun’s angle.

Meteorologists say the second phase of the Al Hameem period typically signals the gradual arrival of summer conditions in Kuwait.
