UAE Extends Online Learning; Work From Home Option for Federal Employees

Abu Dhabi: The Education and Community Development Council has directed schools and higher education institutions across the United Arab Emirates to continue online learning for an additional two weeks at the start of the third academic term.

The decision applies to nurseries, kindergartens, and both public and private schools, including Indian curriculum institutions. Authorities said the move is aimed at ensuring the safety of students, teachers and staff. Further steps will be decided after assessing the situation.

The two week online learning period will also apply to higher education institutions reopening after the Spring Break. However, private institutions that require in-person classes may apply for special permission, which will be evaluated based on operational conditions.

The arrangements also take into account the ongoing period of Ramadan.

Meanwhile, the federal government has introduced flexible work arrangements to support families. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources announced that parents of children up to Grade 8, as well as those with children in nurseries, can work from home if their job roles permit.

Officials said the decision is part of the “Year of the Family” initiative and aims to ease the burden on parents during the online learning period.

Authorities have urged the public to follow official channels for updates and confirmed that any further announcements will be issued through verified platforms.
