UAE issues safety alerts as missiles and drones are intercepted

The UAE’s air defence systems were activated early Sunday in response to incoming missile and drone threats from Iran, according to the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority.

Authorities urged residents to remain in safe locations and closely follow official communication channels for updates. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that loud sounds heard across various areas were caused by air defence systems intercepting missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

In a separate advisory, NCEMA warned the public to stay away from any debris resulting from aerial interceptions. Residents were instructed not to approach, touch, or photograph such objects and to report sightings immediately, as only specialised teams are equipped to handle them safely.

Over the past month, residents across the UAE have become accustomed to emergency alerts sent directly to their mobile phones during such incidents. These notifications are issued when the Ministry of Defence confirms active interceptions, while NCEMA and the Ministry of Interior advise people to shelter in place.

Once the situation is under control, a follow-up alert is sent confirming that it is safe to resume normal activities.
