Tensions between the US and Iran intensified on day 36 of the conflict, as Donald Trump issued a 48 hour ultimatum demanding that Iran reach an agreement or reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He warned that failure to comply would result in severe consequences.
The warning comes as US and Iranian forces continue efforts to locate a missing American crew member following the downing of a US warplane.
Iran swiftly rejected the ultimatum. General Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi, speaking from the Khatam al Anbiya Central Headquarters, described Trump’s statement as irrational and reckless. He cautioned that any escalation could lead to serious repercussions, using similarly strong language to respond to the US warning.
Meanwhile, confusion emerged over reports from the US State Department regarding the arrest of two women allegedly linked to the family of Qassem Soleimani. Iranian media, citing Soleimani’s daughters Zeinab Soleimani and Narjes Soleimani, denied any connection, calling the claims false and misleading.
