Over one million students return to UAE schools with strict safety measures in place

More than one million students across the United Arab Emirates have returned to classrooms after weeks of remote learning, marking a major step toward normalcy in the education sector. Schools reopened following a 50-day gap since the shift to online classes in early March.

Strict safety protocols have been introduced across campuses to ensure student wellbeing. Teachers and staff received prior training, and designated safe zones have been marked in corridors, keeping students away from windows and high-risk areas.

Alongside the reopening, Abu Dhabi Police issued firm guidelines for motorists and school transport safety. Drivers must stop completely when school buses display the “Stop” sign and maintain a minimum five-metre distance. Violations will result in a Dh1,000 fine and 10 black points.

Authorities also outlined clear rules for students, drivers, and schools. Students must follow safety instructions, remain seated, and board buses in an orderly manner. Bus drivers are required to follow strict regulations, including speed limits, safety checks, and proper supervision.

Schools must ensure buses meet safety standards, including GPS tracking, CCTV monitoring, air conditioning, emergency exits, and fire safety equipment. Officials stressed that these measures are essential to ensure a safe and smooth return to in-person education.
