Apple tipped to make iPhone Ultra its most repairable foldable phone yet

Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its first foldable smartphone, expected to be called the iPhone Ultra, with a new internal design focused on improved repairability.

According to leaks shared by tipster Momentary Digital on Weibo, the upcoming foldable device will use a “reasonable and elegant” internal stacking method that could make it one of the most repair friendly foldable smartphones currently in development.

The book style foldable is expected to debut in select global markets in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Reports suggest the device could compete directly with foldable models such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Oppo Find N.

The leak also claims that John Ternus, who currently leads Apple’s hardware engineering division and is widely viewed as a potential future CEO, has been closely involved in the foldable phone’s development and engineering process.

Recently leaked schematics of the rumoured iPhone Ultra revealed details of the device’s internal structure and design. The smartphone is reportedly around 9.23mm thick in its folded state at its thinnest point, excluding the rear camera module.

While Apple has not officially confirmed the existence of the foldable iPhone, speculation surrounding the project continues to grow as multiple leaks and reports emerge ahead of the expected launch window.

Industry analysts believe improved repairability could become a major selling point for foldable smartphones, which are often criticised for complicated internal structures and expensive repairs.
