V D Satheesan government finalises Cabinet portfolios in Kerala

The new Cabinet led by V D Satheesan has finalised portfolio allocations for ministers in the Kerala government.

Chief Minister V D Satheesan will directly handle key departments including Finance, General Administration, Ports, Law, Science and Technology and Lottery.

Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has been assigned the important Home and Vigilance departments along with Coir.

In a notable reshuffle from earlier expectations, Sunny Joseph, who also serves as KPCC president, has been allocated the Electricity, Parliamentary Affairs and Environment departments instead of Revenue.

The Revenue department has been entrusted to A P Anilkumar.

Meanwhile, M Liju has received the Excise and Cooperation portfolios.

Senior leader P K Kunhalikutty will oversee Industries and Information Technology, while K Muraleedharan has been assigned Health and Devaswom.

Other important allocations include P C Vishnunath handling Tourism and Culture, Roji M John overseeing Higher Education and Bindu Krishna taking charge of Labour and Women and Child Development.

K M Shaji has been allocated Local Self Government, while P K Basheer will head the Public Works department.

The Agriculture portfolio has gone to T Siddique, while O J Janeesh will manage Youth Affairs, Sports and Archaeology.

Political observers say the final portfolio distribution reflects a balance between senior leaders, regional representation and alliance considerations within the new government.

The V D Satheesan ministry officially assumed office earlier this week following the recent assembly election victory.
