Google Drive has received a major upgrade to its built-in document scanner, introducing new artificial intelligence-powered features designed to make scanning faster, smarter and more accurate on Android devices.
The updated scanner comes with a refreshed interface based on Google’s Material 3 Expressive design language. The company has streamlined the scanning experience while adding several new productivity-focused tools.
One of the most notable additions is Smart Batch Scanning, which allows users to scan multiple pages in a single session. Instead of capturing individual images one by one, the feature works more like recording a video and can automatically separate pages into individual documents.
Google has also introduced Duplicate Detection, which identifies pages that have already been scanned and prevents them from being captured twice. This helps users avoid creating duplicate copies while scanning large documents.
Another key enhancement is Auto-Best Frame, a feature that automatically replaces blurry scans with the sharpest available image. The tool is designed to improve document quality without requiring manual adjustments.
According to Google, the upgraded scanner relies on on-device AI processing, allowing it to function offline while keeping user data private. The feature is powered through Google Play Services and is currently available on select Android smartphones equipped with at least 8GB of RAM.
The updated scanner is rolling out through both Google Drive and Files by Google, offering users a more efficient way to digitise and manage documents directly from their mobile devices.
