US House Delivers Rare Rebuke to Trump Over Iran Conflict

The US House of Representatives has passed a measure seeking to limit further military action against Iran, delivering a significant political setback to the administration of Donald Trump.

The resolution was approved by a 215-208 vote, with four Republican lawmakers joining Democrats in support of the measure. The vote reflects growing concern in Congress over the ongoing conflict and the scope of presidential war powers.

The measure invokes the War Powers Resolution and calls on the president to withdraw US forces from the conflict or seek explicit approval from Congress for continued military operations. While largely symbolic at this stage, it increases political pressure on the White House to pursue a diplomatic solution.

The White House has dismissed the resolution, arguing that it is an unconstitutional attempt to limit the president’s authority as commander-in-chief. However, the vote highlights divisions within the Republican Party over the handling of the conflict.

Supporters of the resolution argued that Congress has the constitutional authority to declare war and should play a greater role in decisions involving prolonged military engagement. Several lawmakers cited rising fuel prices and concerns about a wider regional conflict as reasons for backing the measure.

The House vote follows a similar effort in the Senate, where lawmakers advanced a related resolution earlier this year. If approved by both chambers, the measure could face legal challenges over its constitutional implications.

The conflict has intensified tensions across the Middle East since military operations began earlier this year. Although ceasefire discussions between Washington and Tehran continue, recent military exchanges have raised doubts about the prospects for a lasting settlement.

The latest congressional action signals increasing bipartisan pressure on the administration to find a negotiated end to the conflict and avoid deeper US involvement in the region.
