Iran Declares Strait of Hormuz Closed as US Disputes Claim

Iran has declared the Strait of Hormuz closed to vessel traffic and warned that any ship attempting to transit the strategic waterway could be targeted, further escalating tensions with the United States.

According to Iranian military officials, the decision followed renewed hostilities and recent US military operations against Iranian targets. Iranian media reported that two vessels attempting to pass through the strait were struck, although independent verification of the claims remains unavailable.

The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters stated that vessel movement through the Strait of Hormuz would be considered a violation of its restrictions and warned ships against approaching the area.

Iranian authorities also cited what they described as repeated ceasefire violations by the United States, saying the closure would remain in effect until further notice. Reports from Iranian media indicated explosions and military activity in southern regions near the waterway.

However, the United States Central Command rejected claims that US naval vessels had been hit. American officials stated that no warships had been struck and maintained that commercial shipping continued to move through the strait.

The latest developments come as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high following fresh US strikes on Iranian military facilities. US President Donald Trump has vowed further action against Iran, while diplomatic efforts to reach a broader agreement remain stalled.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy corridors, handling a significant share of global oil exports. Any disruption to maritime traffic in the area could have major implications for international energy markets and regional security.
