Kuwait Records 45,539 Blood Donors in Five Months

Kuwait City: Kuwait’s Ministry of Health has announced that 45,539 people donated blood and platelets between January and June 6, marking an increase of more than 5,000 donors compared to the same period last year.

Health Minister Ahmed Al-Awadhi said the rise reflects growing public awareness and a stronger culture of voluntary blood donation across the country. He praised donors for their response during the emergency period following the Iranian attacks, describing their contributions as a powerful example of national solidarity and humanitarian responsibility.

According to the ministry, blood donation centres witnessed a significant increase in participation, with average monthly donor numbers rising from around 8,000 before the crisis to nearly 10,000 during the emergency period. Citizens, residents, community organisations and volunteer groups all played a role in supporting blood supplies.

Meanwhile, Undersecretary Salman Khalifa Al-Sabah stressed that blood transfusion and cell therapy services remain a key pillar of Kuwait’s healthcare system, with maintaining adequate blood reserves continuing to be a national priority.

The ministry also marked World Blood Donor Day by honouring blood donors and community organisations that contributed to donation campaigns, highlighting the importance of sustaining safe and reliable blood supplies for patients and emergency needs.
