Kuwait Signs Contract for 400kV Transmission Line Project

Kuwait City: Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has signed a contract worth KD84.667 million for the supply and installation of 400kV overhead transmission lines as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s renewable energy infrastructure.

The project was awarded after receiving approvals from the State Audit Bureau and the Central Agency for Public Tenders. Officials said the winning company met all technical requirements and specifications outlined in the tender.

According to ministry sources, the project will connect the Shagaya Z Solar Power Conversion Station with the Subiya Power Station, enabling electricity generated from photovoltaic panels at the Shagaya Renewable Energy Complex to be transmitted efficiently into Kuwait’s national power grid.

The ministry added that it is working closely with the Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects to advance future phases of the Shagaya project. The third phase includes a planned 1,100-megawatt project already awarded to a preferred investor, while bidding procedures continue for an additional 500-megawatt development.

The initiative forms part of Kuwait’s long-term strategy to expand renewable energy generation and diversify its energy sources.
