Kuwait City: A joint inspection team from the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition and the Criminal Investigation Department has uncovered an illegal grocery store and food trading operation being run from a private residential property.
Authorities said the facility had been converted into an unlicensed food establishment and was being operated without the necessary health approvals, safety requirements or official certifications. Inspectors found that the premises were not properly equipped to store or handle food products in accordance with public health regulations.
The raid was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to protect food security and consumer safety and to combat illegal food-related activities. Officials confirmed that violation reports have been issued and that legal procedures are underway, including referring the case to the Public Prosecution.
According to inspection officials, financial penalties for food safety violations can range from KD100 to KD100,000, depending on the nature and severity of the offence. Violations may include operating a food establishment without a licence or allowing workers to handle food without valid health certificates.
Authorities urged consumers to purchase food products only from licensed establishments and to avoid dealing with unverified or unauthorised food suppliers.
