Dubai RTA Increases Delivery Rider Rest Areas by 53%

Dubai: Roads and Transport Authority has allocated 23 temporary rest areas for delivery motorcycle riders at metro and bus stations across the emirate as part of efforts to support workers during the summer midday break.

The initiative represents a 53 percent increase compared to last year, when 15 rest areas were available. The move aligns with the UAE’s midday work ban, which prohibits outdoor work under direct sunlight between 12:30pm and 3:00pm from June 15 to September 15.

RTA said the designated rest zones were established in coordination with government entities and partners to provide riders with safe and comfortable spaces during peak afternoon temperatures. The initiative aims to enhance rider well-being, improve road safety, reduce heat-related risks and encourage compliance with labour and traffic regulations.

This year’s expanded network includes major transport hubs such as Gold Souq Bus Station, Al Satwa Bus Station, Al Jafiliya Bus Station, Al Qusais Bus Station, Al Karama Bus Station, Centrepoint Metro Station, Al Furjan Metro Station, DMCC Metro Station, BurJuman Metro Station, Ibn Battuta Metro Station and e& Metro Station.

According to RTA, the expansion reflects the continued growth of Dubai’s delivery sector and increasing demand for logistics services across the city. Officials said the facilities will help riders rest comfortably while waiting for new orders during the hottest hours of the day.
