Kuwait Plans Smart Water Meters to Monitor Household Consumption

Kuwait City: Kuwait is preparing to launch a major smart water meter project aimed at improving the monitoring and management of household water consumption across the country.

The initiative, led by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, plans to install approximately 300,000 smart water meters during the first phase. The new devices will replace traditional mechanical meters and automatically record and transmit water consumption data.

Officials believe the smart meter system will help reduce water wastage, improve consumption monitoring, and enable the early detection of leaks, contributing to more efficient use of water resources. The technology is also expected to enhance billing accuracy and support long-term sustainability goals.

The Central Agency for Public Tenders has extended the deadline for submitting bids related to the project until June 23. Authorities will select the company that best meets the required technical specifications before awarding the contract.

According to sources, the smart water meter initiative forms part of Kuwait’s broader digital transformation strategy, which aims to modernise public services and improve resource management through advanced technology.
