Abu Dhabi: Etihad Rail has announced that its passenger rail service between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah will begin an introductory operational phase on June 30, 2026, reducing travel time between the two emirates to just 1 hour and 45 minutes.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Mohamed bin Zayed City Passenger Train Station by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Officials said the new passenger rail network represents a major step forward in enhancing connectivity and sustainable transportation across the UAE.
Ticket bookings will open on June 23 through the Etihad Rail mobile application and official website. Fares for the Abu Dhabi–Fujairah route will start from Dh55 for Comfort Class and Dh120 for Premium Class. The passenger fleet consists of 13 trains, each capable of carrying up to 400 passengers.
The rollout of stations will take place in phases. The Dubai Train Station and Al Dhaid Train Station are scheduled to open on September 30, 2026, followed by stations in Al Dhafra on December 30, 2026. The full route will be completed with the opening of the Sharjah Train Station on March 30, 2027.
Officials said the passenger rail project will strengthen links between cities, economic centres and tourist destinations while supporting sustainable development, urban growth and improved mobility throughout the country.
