Abu Dhabi: The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, M42 and US-based Mammoth Biosciences have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop gene-editing therapies for rare and inherited diseases, marking another milestone in Abu Dhabi’s precision medicine strategy.
The agreement was announced during the BIO International Convention 2026 in San Diego. The partnership aims to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s life sciences sector by expanding clinical research, advanced therapy manufacturing and scientific innovation.
Under the collaboration, the Department of Health will provide the regulatory and research framework, while M42 will contribute its genomics expertise, healthcare network and clinical research infrastructure. Mammoth Biosciences will bring its CRISPR-based gene-editing technology to support the development of next-generation treatments.
The initiative will also leverage data generated through the Emirati Genome Programme to accelerate research into inherited diseases and translate genetic discoveries into therapies that can benefit patients in the UAE and internationally.
Officials said the partnership reflects Abu Dhabi’s long-term commitment to healthcare innovation and reinforces its ambition to become a global hub for genomics, precision medicine and advanced biotechnology.
