Kuwait to Resume Overtime System for Government Employees in September

Kuwait City: Kuwait is set to resume its overtime system for government employees beginning in September, following the end of temporary measures introduced to reduce electricity consumption during the summer.

According to official sources, government ministries and agencies will once again be allowed to assign employees to overtime duties, subject to the approved regulations and conditions. The move is expected to improve productivity, speed up the completion of public services and provide eligible employees with additional financial incentives through overtime allowances.

Authorities clarified that any ministry or government entity wishing to implement overtime must first obtain approval from the Civil Service Bureau before assigning employees to work beyond normal hours.

The decision will coincide with the expiry of the temporary three-month measure that reduced official working hours by one hour per day. The shorter work schedule was introduced as an exceptional step to reduce electricity demand and promote energy conservation during the peak summer season.

Officials believe the return of overtime will help government departments manage workloads more efficiently while maintaining public services after the summer energy-saving period ends.
