Kuwait’s NBK Issues Cybersecurity Alert on Public Wi-Fi Risks

Kuwait City: The National Bank of Kuwait has urged customers to exercise caution when using free public Wi-Fi networks, warning that hackers may use unsecured connections to steal personal and banking information.

The bank advised users to avoid accessing online banking services, making financial transactions or entering credit card details while connected to public Wi-Fi at airports, shopping malls, cafés and other public places.

According to NBK, cybercriminals often create fake Wi-Fi networks with names similar to legitimate hotspots to trick users into connecting. Once connected, sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and banking credentials can be intercepted or stolen.

To improve online security, the bank recommended using only trusted internet connections and enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) on important accounts. Customers were also advised to switch off Wi-Fi on their phones and other devices when it is not in use to reduce security risks.

NBK further warned users not to click on suspicious links received through emails, text messages or websites and to avoid sharing personal or financial information in response to unsolicited requests.

The bank said following good digital security practices is essential to protecting personal data and reducing the risk of cyber fraud.
