Kuwait Braces for Year’s Hottest Summer Phase

Kuwait City: Kuwait is set to experience a significant rise in temperatures as the country enters the First Gemini season, one of the hottest periods of the year, with the beginning of July marking the end of the current Al Thuwaibi season.

According to meteorologists, the First Gemini season lasts for 13 days and is typically characterised by extremely high temperatures, dry weather and hot winds. During this period, the sun’s intensity reaches its peak, causing the ground to absorb and radiate more heat.

Experts explained that, astronomically, this phase begins as the sun gradually starts its apparent movement southward from its northernmost point toward the equator. In traditional solar and lunar calendars, this period is also known as Al Haq.

The Second Gemini season follows immediately after the first and also lasts 13 days. It is known for even harsher weather conditions, with stronger hot northern winds, making it one of the most challenging parts of the summer. Coastal areas are also expected to experience increased humidity, while nights may remain unusually warm.

Meteorologists said the summer reaches its most intense stage during the Mirzam season, which follows the Gemini period. Temperatures are expected to gradually decline only after Mirzam ends towards the end of August, signalling the beginning of the transition out of peak summer.

Authorities continue to advise residents to take precautions against extreme heat by staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and limiting outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day.
