NCM Issues Flash Flood Warning as Rain Hits UAE Regions

Heavy rain and hail hit parts of Sharjah on Thursday afternoon as unsettled weather continued across the UAE, prompting the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) to issue alerts for convective clouds and possible flash flooding. Videos shared by Storm Centre showed intense showers in Al Dhaid, Washah and Mleiha, while images circulating on social media showed hailstones covering the ground and water accumulating on roads.

Rain was also reported in Shawka in Ras Al Khaimah and in Siji and Tawian in Fujairah. The NCM’s convective cloud alert was valid from 12:30 pm to 10 pm on Thursday, October 15. Yellow warnings covered large parts of the eastern region, extending from Ras Al Khaimah through Fujairah and the Hajar Mountains, along with pockets of southern and western Abu Dhabi. An orange warning was in place over parts of the eastern mountains, where hazardous weather conditions were expected.

The NCM also issued a flash flood alert for some mountain areas from 2 pm to 7 pm, urging residents to exercise caution during rainfall and stay away from wadis and valleys where water levels can rise rapidly. Motorists were advised to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and avoid driving through flooded roads. Residents were also urged to follow official weather updates and comply with instructions issued by the authorities.
