Kuwait is considering introducing Chinese as an optional subject in school curricula as part of efforts to expand students’ language-learning opportunities and strengthen cultural exchange with China.
The Ministry of Education is coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the proposed initiative, according to a report published by Al-Rai on October 19. The plan aims to give students greater exposure to foreign languages and international educational experiences.
Under the proposal, Chinese would be offered as an optional subject and incorporated into a dedicated foreign-language track under Kuwait’s new secondary school system. The arrangement would allow students to choose an additional language as part of their studies.
The proposed cooperation also includes adding information about the history and geography of Kuwait and China to educational curricula. This component is intended to help students develop a better understanding of both countries’ historical, geographical and cultural backgrounds.
The initiative reflects efforts to expand educational ties between Kuwait and China while encouraging knowledge exchange and providing students with language skills that may be useful in an increasingly interconnected world.
The proposal is still under consideration, and the report did not specify when Chinese-language classes could begin or which schools would participate.
