Kuwait Freezes Files of 8,849 Companies Over Salary Violations

Kuwait has intensified action against companies that fail to pay workers’ salaries on time, with authorities freezing the files of 8,849 companies through June 2026 under an automated monitoring system.

Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Yousef Al-Sabah said the system helps authorities identify salary payment irregularities and take action against employers that violate wage regulations. Inspections primarily cover establishments employing five or more workers.

The measures aim to protect workers’ rights and ensure companies comply with Kuwait’s labor laws. Under the automated system, company files are frozen when salary payment failures are detected, allowing authorities to respond to violations more quickly.

Companies whose files are frozen or cancelled face restrictions on obtaining new work permits and renewing existing ones. The measures are intended to encourage timely salary payments and strengthen compliance with labor regulations.

Authorities are continuing to monitor wage payments through the system as part of wider efforts to protect employees and hold employers accountable for violations.
