Umm Al Quwain Closes All Beaches After Oil Spill

All beaches in Umm Al Quwain have been temporarily closed following an oil spill from a tanker that caused marine pollution, the UAE’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has announced.

The spill was detected through the UAE’s technical monitoring systems after residents in Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain raised concerns about an unusual odour in coastal areas. Following inspections, the ministry confirmed the oil leak and said the reported odour was not expected to cause health problems.

Specialized teams have been formed in coordination with local authorities to contain the spill, monitor affected areas and carry out cleanup operations. The beaches will remain closed until technical teams complete their inspections and determine that the affected areas are suitable for reopening.

The ministry has also urged fishermen to follow official instructions and avoid fishing in areas affected by the spill while cleanup operations continue. Residents have been advised to rely on official sources for updates and refrain from circulating unverified information.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and coordinate response efforts to limit the environmental impact and protect coastal waters.
