Kuwait Issues Heat Alert as Temperatures Could Reach 55°C

Kuwait City: The General Administration of Civil Defense has warned that temperatures across Kuwait could rise between 47°C and 55°C in the coming days, urging citizens and residents to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from extreme heat.

Authorities said the intense weather is linked to the influence of a low-pressure system, which is expected to affect several parts of the country. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and remain hydrated by drinking plenty of water and other fluids.

The Civil Defense also warned motorists not to leave aerosol cans, perfumes, batteries or soft drinks inside parked vehicles, as extreme temperatures can increase the risk of explosions or damage. Drivers were advised to park in shaded areas whenever possible, avoid filling fuel tanks completely, slightly open vehicle windows when parked, and ensure tyres are not overloaded during long-distance travel.

Officials further cautioned that snakes, scorpions and other reptiles may leave their natural habitats in search of cooler places, increasing the likelihood of encounters in homes and farms during the hot weather.

Residents were also reminded not to expose gas cylinders to direct sunlight and to reduce electricity consumption by operating air conditioners only in occupied rooms. The Civil Defense urged the public to avoid direct sun exposure, particularly between 10:00am and 3:00pm, when temperatures are expected to be at their highest.
