Kuwait City: Indians have retained their position as the largest expatriate community in Kuwait, with 578,900 Indian workers employed in the country by the end of 2025, according to the latest Labour Market Information System report.
The report shows that Kuwait’s total workforce exceeded 3.04 million at the end of December 2025, reflecting an annual increase of 97,400 workers, or 3.3 percent, compared to the previous year.
Among Kuwait’s 441,200 employed citizens, around 76 percent work in the government sector, reaffirming the government’s position as the country’s largest employer. The private sector accounts for 58.8 percent of the total workforce, employing approximately 1.79 million people, while the domestic sector represents 25.4 percent and government institutions account for 15.8 percent.
Although the number of expatriate workers increased to 1.83 million, their share of the total workforce declined slightly from 66.7 percent in 2024 to 65.9 percent in 2025.
Excluding domestic workers, Indians account for 25.5 percent of Kuwait’s workforce, making them the largest expatriate nationality. Egypt ranks second with 467,900 workers, followed by Bangladesh, Nepal, Syria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Jordan.
The report also noted that Kuwait continues to rely heavily on expatriate workers despite ongoing government efforts to encourage more Kuwaiti nationals to join the private sector.
