The UAE Cyber Security Council has urged residents to exercise caution before granting artificial intelligence tools access to their cameras, location data and other device features, warning that some services could collect personal information without users fully realizing it.
The Council said the biggest privacy risk from an AI tool may not necessarily come from the information users enter themselves, but from the data and device functions the application is permitted to access.
For example, allowing an AI service to access a device’s camera could potentially expose a user’s face as well as information visible in the surrounding environment.
Check AI Tools Before Using Them
The Council also warned users not to assume that AI tools appearing in online search results are automatically safe or trustworthy. Some services could be designed to collect personal information without clearly informing users of how their data will be used.
Residents were advised to verify the reliability and source of an AI service before using it and carefully review every permission request rather than automatically granting access.
The Council recommended using AI services from trusted and verified sources and allowing only the permissions genuinely necessary for the application to function.
