UAE launches national programme to drive artificial intelligence and advanced technology

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has announced the launch of the National Program for Advanced Sciences and Technologies, a new initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, science and high technology.

The program will connect higher education and research institutions with strategic industrial sectors, creating a closer link between scientific development and the UAE’s economic and industrial priorities. The initiative is designed to support the country’s future technological competitiveness while strengthening national capabilities in critical advanced-technology fields.

A key focus of the program will be identifying and developing young UAE talent and preparing them to become specialists in high-tech fields. It will also seek to attract international expertise and strengthen the global competitiveness of technology products and solutions developed locally.

The first phase of the initiative will focus on six key areas, including advanced technical education, developing national talent, attracting international talent, and supporting technological research and innovation. The program is intended to build an integrated ecosystem connecting education, research and industry.

The initiative also aims to establish an environment where technology developed in the UAE can move beyond research and into industrial production and international markets. This would enable locally developed technological solutions to be manufactured and exported, supporting the country’s ambitions to become a global hub for advanced technology.

A high-level committee has been established to oversee the program and provide strategic guidance, ensuring that its objectives remain aligned with the UAE’s long-term priorities in science, technology and national development.
