27 people killed in gold mine fire in Peru.

Peru: Nearly 27 people have been killed in gold mine fire in Peru. According to the mine's operator, Yanaquihua, 175 miners were rescued. It is a tiny mine in the southern region of Arequipa. It is believed that an electrical short-circuit started the fire. The miners were reportedly working about 100 meters (330 feet) below the surface when the fire started. Pictures from the local media showed the hillside erupting in fire and smoke.
