Beijing battles one of the worst heat waves on record

As the Chinese capital battles one of the worst heat waves on record, Beijing's temperature once again surged past 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit).
Since 1951, 11 days in Beijing have seen temperatures rise above 40C (104F), with five of those days occurring in the last two weeks. 

Authorities claim that the intense heat waves that have gripped China for weeks arrived earlier, were more widespread, and were more extreme than in previous years.
