Afghan women protest against Taliban's order to ban beauty salons

A dozen of Afghan women demonstrated against the Taliban's decision to ban beauty salons across the country, on Wednesday. Security forces responded to the protest by using fire hoses, stun guns, and shooting into the air to disperse the demonstrators.

 
Earlier this month, the Taliban announced that they would grant all salons in the country one month to cease operations, prompting international officials to express their concern over the potential repercussions on female entrepreneurs. According to the Taliban, beauty salons provide services that are prohibited by Islam and can lead to financial hardship for grooms' families during wedding celebrations.
