Nearly two thousand Antarctic penguins have been found dead on the eastern coast of Uruguay in the last 10 days, but the cause of the mysterious deaths, which do not appear to have been caused by bird flu, has yet to be determined, officials said. Most of the penguins were Magellanic, juveniles, who perished in the Atlantic and were transported by currents to Uruguay's eastern coast, Carmen Leizaguoyen, director of the Ministry of the Environment's department for fauna, said.
