Kuwait Imposes Stricter Penalties for Torture

Amendments to the Penal Code establish a penalty of five years of imprisonment and a fine of 5,000 dinars for any public employee who causes harm, whether physical or psychological, or instills fear in an individual to extract a confession. Additionally, officials who are present, consent to, or neglect to intervene in such acts, particularly those involving discrimination, may face imprisonment for up to seven years and fines ranging from 3,000 to 10,000 dinars. Public employees who inflict harm or instill fear to obtain confessions are subject to a maximum sentence of five years in prison along with a fine of 5,000 dinars.
