The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has reinforced the UAE’s national newborn screening program to enhance early diagnosis of health conditions in infants, in line with the country’s healthcare standards.

The updated program now complies with federal health regulations, ensuring precise and timely identification of genetic disorders, hereditary diseases, and congenital abnormalities in newborns. It follows the Cabinet Resolution on newborn medical screening, which sets strict protocols for blood tests, hearing screenings, and heart defect detection.

Key features of the program include:

  • Advanced biochemical testing at the National Reference Laboratory
  • Standardized hearing and cardiac screenings
  • Integration with ‘Riayati’, the UAE’s National Unified Medical Record (NUMR), for seamless data access and improved clinical decisions

MoHAP emphasized that newborn health is a top priority, requiring strong collaboration between public and private hospitals to meet national health objectives. The initiative also focuses on raising public awareness and ensuring sustainable preventive healthcare.

By improving early detection and leveraging digital health solutions, the UAE aims to protect newborns’ well-being and build a healthier future for the nation.
