Major Internet Outage as Cloudflare Crash Disrupts Websites Worldwide

  • 19/11/2025

A significant global internet outage occurred on November 18th when Cloudflare, a major internet infrastructure provider, experienced a system crash that disrupted numerous popular websites and services. The disruption began around 11:30 GMT and affected platforms including X, ChatGPT, Grindr, Zoom, and Canva, with users encountering error messages and inaccessible services.

Cloudflare identified the cause as a malfunction in a configuration file designed to manage threat traffic, which subsequently crashed their traffic routing software. The company publicly apologized for the incident, acknowledging that given their critical role in internet infrastructure, such outages are "unacceptable." While the core technical issue has been resolved, some platforms may continue experiencing residual effects during the full recovery process.

The outage demonstrated Cloudflare's substantial footprint in global internet operations, with approximately 20% of websites relying on their security and performance services. Company officials confirmed the incident resulted from an internal technical failure rather than a cyberattack. This marks the latest in a series of major internet infrastructure disruptions following recent outages affecting Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.
