Oman Mandates Professional Licenses for Energy and Minerals Workers by June 2026

  • 08/12/2025

Oman has implemented new professional licensing requirements for workers in the energy and minerals sectors, providing an 18-month grace period until June 1, 2026, for compliance. According to the Ministry of Labor, work permits (visas) will not be issued or renewed for unlicensed professionals after this deadline.

The mandate covers 46 specialized occupations including:

  • Operational roles (Crane Operators, Drillers, Welders)

  • Technical positions (Electrical/Mechanical/Instrument Technicians)

  • Supervisory functions (HSE Advisors, Lift Supervisors, Tool Pushers)

Professional practice licenses must be obtained through the Oman Energy Society's Sector Skills Unit. During the grace period, both licensed and unlicensed workers will continue receiving work permits, but from June 2026 onward, all professionals in designated occupations must hold valid certifications to maintain employment eligibility in Oman's energy and minerals industries.
