On Sunday, Duaij Al-Otaibi, the Acting Director General of Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to maintaining the highest levels of security and safety in its aviation sector. This effort is achieved through close cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and other regional and international organizations.
In an interview with the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Otaibi highlighted Kuwait’s significant progress in developing its air transport infrastructure. The country has implemented the best international standards in civil aviation, resulting in improved efficiency, passenger experience, and overall safety and comfort during flights.
Al-Otaibi also noted several key advancements, including the establishment of a state-of-the-art cargo city, a new runway, and a specialized administrative building. Additionally, Kuwait has introduced a new advanced simulator to train air traffic controllers and enhance air navigation staff skills. A modern control tower, equipped with the latest systems, is also under development, and a contract with an international company is underway to operate the tower and train national staff.
The DGCA has developed a strategic plan that aligns with the future of the aviation sector and complies with ICAO standards. Al-Otaibi emphasized the importance of further enhancing the skills of national aviation staff and boosting the nation’s revenue from the aviation sector, contributing to both safety and security improvements.
Furthermore, Kuwait continues to support ICAO’s programs and adheres to the latest international practices. Al-Otaibi expressed optimism about the upcoming law that will transform the General Administration of Civil Aviation into an independent technical body, which is expected to bring substantial improvements to Kuwait’s civil aviation system and help achieve its broader strategic objectives.
