Rohit’s Poor Batting Form Impacting Captaincy, Say Former Teammates

Rohit Sharma’s ongoing poor form with the bat is impacting his captaincy, according to former India teammates Harbhajan Singh and Cheteshwar Pujara. Rohit has only managed one half-century in his last 12 Test innings, which include eight single-digit scores. His struggles continued in the second Test in Adelaide, where he could only manage scores of three and six, even after moving to the middle order.

Former spinner Harbhajan Singh emphasized that a player’s performance on the field directly influences their decision-making as captain. “No matter how big a player is, they worry about their performance,” Singh said, adding that if Rohit starts scoring runs, his leadership could improve.

Pujara, who played a key role in India’s historic 2018-19 Test series win in Australia, agreed, stating that a captain’s form affects their leadership. He advised Rohit to focus on steadying his start and gradually building his innings, which could help him regain confidence and lead more proactively.

KL Rahul, who opened in the first two Tests, may move to the middle order, with Rohit expected to reclaim his opening spot alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal for the third Test in Brisbane.
