Kuwait Interior Ministry Seizes Rotten Meat Warehouse, Smuggled Subsidized Food in Separate Raids

Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has dismantled an illegal warehouse in Shuwaikh used for storing and selling rotten meat unfit for human consumption. Acting on a tip from a citizen, the Criminal Security Sector and the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate Investigation Department—in coordination with the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition—raided the facility run by an Asian expatriate group. Authorities found large quantities of meat of unknown origin, thawed frozen meat marketed as fresh, and spoiled food items in violation of health and licensing regulations.

In a separate operation, the ministry uncovered a smuggling network attempting to illegally export subsidized food supplies outside Kuwait. Following a seizure at the Al-Salmi border crossing, investigators traced the operation to a warehouse run by African expatriates, where large quantities of government-subsidized food items were being prepared for smuggling and sale abroad. All individuals involved in both cases have been arrested and referred to competent legal authorities.

The ministry emphasized that such activities endanger public health and exploit state subsidies meant to support citizens. It reiterated its commitment to pursuing anyone who tampers with food safety or misuses public resources, calling on the public to report suspicious activities through official channels. Both operations are part of broader security campaigns to enforce health regulations and prevent the misuse of subsidized goods.

These crackdowns reflect Kuwait’s intensified efforts to combat food fraud and subsidy abuse, particularly amid rising concerns over illicit trade and unauthorized commercial activity. By increasing inspections and inter-agency cooperation, authorities aim to safeguard consumer safety and ensure government subsidies benefit intended beneficiaries within the country.
