UAE says Hormuz not Iran’s property as Gulf backs efforts to secure vital waterway

The United Arab Emirates has stated that the Strait of Hormuz is not the property of Iran, amid rising tensions following US-led actions targeting Iranian-linked vessels in the region. The UAE also affirmed that Gulf nations support international efforts to ensure free and secure navigation through the key maritime route.

UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions with Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in Manama, where they reviewed the regional situation and recent developments linked to Iran.

Meanwhile, Qatar has urged Iran to engage constructively in mediation efforts. Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, in a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, stressed that maritime routes should not be used as leverage in negotiations and called for keeping Hormuz open.

In response, Iran maintained that the breakdown of talks in Islamabad was due to what it described as unfair US demands and sanctions.

According to statements from United States Central Command and UK Maritime Trade Operations, monitoring and restrictions on vessel movements continue in and around the Strait of Hormuz and nearby Omani waters.
