The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has announced the official Eid Al Adha holiday schedule for government employees across the United Arab Emirates.
According to the announcement, public sector employees will receive holidays from May 25 to May 29 on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
Including the regular weekend holidays on Saturday and Sunday, government employees are expected to enjoy a total nine day break beginning May 23, with official work scheduled to resume on June 1.
Authorities stated that the final confirmation of Eid Al Adha dates will depend on the official sighting of the Dhul Hijjah moon.
The Moon Sighting Committee is expected to meet on May 17 to observe the crescent moon marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah.
Based on current astronomical calculations, Dhul Hijjah is likely to begin on May 18. If confirmed, the Day of Arafah is expected to fall on May 26, while Eid Al Adha celebrations would begin on May 27.
Eid Al Adha, celebrated on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, is one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar and marks the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
Across the UAE, markets, shopping centres and businesses are already preparing for the festive season as residents and expatriates get ready for family gatherings, travel and celebrations during the long holiday break.
The holiday announcement is also expected to boost domestic tourism and travel activity across the country during the festive period.
