Kuwait City: Kuwait has introduced a major policy change in the domestic worker recruitment sector by restricting recruitment to workers from only 10 approved countries.
The new measure aims to improve transparency, strengthen oversight and ensure better regulation of domestic worker hiring procedures across the country.
Authorities said the decision is designed to enhance the protection of workers’ rights while reducing irregular and unauthorized recruitment practices. Only countries included in Kuwait’s approved list will be eligible for future recruitment processes.
The policy also places greater emphasis on official agreements and memorandums of understanding between Kuwait and labour-sending countries. These agreements are expected to play a key role in regulating employment contracts, recruitment procedures and worker welfare standards.
As part of the reforms, Kuwait is also accelerating the digital transformation of visa, sponsorship and recruitment-related services for domestic workers.
Several services are expected to be integrated into the government’s unified Sahel platform, allowing users to complete procedures electronically and improving efficiency across the sector.
Officials say the changes are intended to reduce violations, strengthen legal recruitment channels and create a more organised and transparent domestic labour market in Kuwait.
