Kuwait City: The National Bank of Kuwait has urged travellers to remain vigilant against fake travel websites and fraudulent booking applications as holiday travel demand increases.
The warning comes amid concerns that scammers are targeting holidaymakers with attractive offers for airline tickets and hotel reservations at prices significantly lower than market rates. According to the bank, such deals are often designed to lure victims into making payments through fraudulent platforms.
NBK advised customers to make travel reservations only through official airline websites or licensed travel agencies. Travellers are also encouraged to verify booking references and ticket details directly with airlines to ensure reservations are genuine.
The bank further warned against making payments through unfamiliar links or messaging platforms such as WhatsApp. Customers were advised never to share banking or card details on suspicious websites or with unknown individuals.
Officials noted that travel-related fraud tends to increase during peak holiday periods, with victims sometimes discovering fake bookings only when they arrive at airports or hotels, resulting in financial losses and disrupted travel plans.
The advisory was issued as part of NBK’s awareness initiative aimed at combating online fraud. Customers are encouraged to report suspicious websites, messages or booking offers to the relevant authorities and use only trusted channels when planning their holidays.
